We absolutely love fall decorating. This is the season of pumpkin-everything, with rich and warm colors that welcome our friends and family into our homes. Decorating your porch for autumn starts with colors. Before you begin your fall porch decorating, you’ll need to create a color scheme. You’re definitely not limited to using only the typical fall colors, like orange and brown. You can expand your fall color scheme to include colors that look best with your home’s exterior. Here are some inspiring ideas for your fall decorating color scheme:

Best colors for fall decorating

  • Orange: This is the first color that comes to mind when we think fall. Burnt orange is the most popular shade for autumn, but you can experiment to find the perfect one.
  • Gold: This is another staple of fall decorating — including metallic gold.
  • Russet Red: Like a perfect autumn leaf, warm and vibrant russet red is a standard fall color.
  • Black: Yes, black works very well in fall porch decorating. Black is a stunning color for planters, wrought iron decor and even a front door.
  • Eggplant: Dark purple can fit into your decor, as it complements the traditional warm fall color scheme.
  • Navy Blue: This can be used as a neutral, like black or charcoal gray, in most color schemes. All shades of blue are easy to use in a beach-inspired color scheme combined with fall colors.

Once you have figured out your fall color scheme, it’s time to find the perfect front porch decor. It’s so much easier to shop for decor when you have your colors in mind — this is the secret to creating a charming decor style on your front porch. Here are our favorite tips for a beautiful fall porch:

Add decorative accessories for your fall front porch makeover

Decorative autumn accessories can transform your porch into a neighborhood showpiece. The right accents really complete the look of your new porch design.  Accessories that work well with fall porch decorating include lanterns, candle holders, decorative welcome signs and baskets. Your accents tie your entire autumn porch together, so there is no wrong way to use them. You can never have too many, either.

fall porch wreath

A fall wreath is essential for front porch decorating

When it comes to fall decorating, the right wreath is everything. You can go a little overboard on your wreath, as it’s really the star of your porch decor. You can create your own wreath to show off your autumn color scheme, or buy one and build your porch decor around it. Your fall wreath should complement your front door color and coordinate with your front door mat.

Porch with fall foliage

Beautiful fall foliage is a must-have for your porch

Whether you choose live or faux plants, adding fall foliage to your porch is a must. We love the look of colorful chrysanthemums displayed on the porch. If you’re still struggling to design a color scheme, the colors of fall chrysanthemums can help. Arrange your living plants with faux fall leaf garlands so you’ll get the look of autumn branches without the hassle of dying leaves.

Fall porch planters

Add colorful planters

Planters are an easy way to get your porch ready for fall. Black ceramic pots really highlight bright fall colors, but you can also dress up your existing plants by choosing colorful pots instead. Try planters and pots in varying sizes and shapes to create an interesting arrangement. We love planter boxes and holders in decorative wrought iron as an anchor to give your porch a traditional style.

fall porch furniture

Painted furniture is pretty and functional on your porch

Painted furniture is a must-have for your fall porch, and it’s so versatile. A bench or chair on your porch creates a cozy look and provides seating for enjoying warm fall days. A painted bench can also work as a shelf or plant stand, creating levels of decor. You may not have the time or patience to paint your own porch furniture, but it’s an easy way to customize the color. If you purchase painted furniture, you can still customize it with paint and stencils. You can also repeat your stencil design on outdoor wall art or even a stenciled outdoor rug.

Front door colors

Fall is a great time to update your front door color

We love any excuse to paint our front door in a beautiful new color. Your front door is the centerpiece of your porch decor, so adding a welcoming paint color is essential. There really are no rules when it comes to front door color. You’ll want to choose a color that will weather the seasons and not look out of place throughout the year. If you plan to add a gorgeous wreath, your front door color should serve as a backdrop that brings out the best of your porch style.

Rotate your seasonal decor

Decorating your porch for fall gives you several opportunities to change up your decor throughout the season. To keep your fall porch style fresh, you can integrate themed decorations into your seasonal decor. Back to school, Halloween, harvest-time and Thanksgiving are all on the fall calendar.

Fall front porch mat

A doormat is a welcome addition to your porch

Your front door mat is not just functional; it’s an important element of your autumn porch. You can go as simple or as bold as you like, as your mat is horizontal and is not visually competing for attention with your other decor. Buying a new doormat is a quick and inexpensive way to update your porch if you don’t want to spend a lot of time on fall porch decorating.

SKÅDIS: 5 ways to make the IKEA pegboard even better

IKEA introduced its own pegboard system, SKÅDIS, two years ago and I’d say it’s one of the best systems IKEA launched in recent years. Amped up KURA bed with drawers and safety rail

We saw other KURA beds with storage drawers underneath on this site. So, we also wanted the same — to make space for LEGO s and wooden trains under the bed. We installed the additional headboard panels because the configuration of the room and the location of the windows in the room meant that we wanted the children’s heads on the right and the ladder on the left. The KURA plans did not seem to allow this configuration, though I have seen online that there are models of this bed from 2003 that allowed more options for setup. Additional safety features Safety rail panel for the lower KURA bed helps our two year old feel secure, as he just transitioned from a crib directly to this bunk. Likewise metal handles on the ladder. They added a lot of confidence for both the five-year-old and the two-year-old when climbing up to the top bunk. We are aware that the bunk is now even higher than before and both children are under 6. Use caution and common sense before making these modifi...
