As we take a look at this year’s interior decorating trends and which ones we tried in our homes, we have the opportunity to be honest with ourselves about what worked and what definitely did not. While many things were better in theory (for example, that bright white rug in the living room), others were real winners in the way of elegance and functionality. Once of our favorite furniture pieces of the year: mirrors.

Adding a mirror to your home can be beneficial for several reasons, not all of them including vanity. Mirrors can add light to any room and create the illusion a space is bigger than it actually is. They’re also a dream for anyone who wants to add a bit of flare to a room without going the traditional route with a statement painting.

Classic wall mirror

The classic wall mirror will never go out of style. Try putting a statement like this in your entryway for last minute looks before leaving the house or set it up as wall art in the living room.

Accent mirror

A little less dramatic than a statement mirror, the accent mirror is a great way to add some interest to your home’s walls. The best thing about an accent mirror is that it can stand well on its own, but also plays well with others. Try using it to spruce up a bare wall or mix it in with your gallery wall.

Chic double bathroom mirrors

Revamping your bathroom does not have to be difficult. Equipping your restroom can be done in quick and easy steps as you install side-by-side mirrors above your sink. This can create the illusion of a larger sink and counter space as well as adding an alluring look to your walls.

Tiled statement mirror

Beautiful and geometrically pleasing, this tiled statement mirror adds a pop of brightness to the room without clashing with any of the other color schemes or textures in the room. Investing in a large mirror for the wall of your dining or living area has the potential to transform your room. One of the biggest benefits of having a grand mirror wall is the lighting opportunities it brings.

The popular round, copper-rimmed mirror. I have seen this in countless friends’ homes in their entryways, living rooms, even their dining areas. This style of mirror is so popular because it works on so many levels. Whether your home is minimalist, classic or more mod, this mirror only enhances the look and feel of whatever room it graces.

Mirrored furniture is a fresh and unexpected way to add a statement piece to any room. Not only does mirrored furniture go with any color scheme you may have going on, but they are as practical as they are beautiful. We love what a good dresser or nightstand does to a bedroom or dressing area.

Sliding Bookcase Doors KALLAX hack to divide your rooms

I replaced single-glazed sliding doors that divided the sitting room and dining room with a sliding KALLAX bookcase. For one “door”, I used two 2×2 cubes and one 2×1 unit. As we already owned 4 separate KALLAX 2×2 cubes and they seemed to be exactly the same width as the internal doors, we thought it might be possible to stack them. With one additional 2×1 KALLAX they almost matched the height of the internal doors. Sliding KALLAX bookcase doors in closed position First, still a work in progress but let us show you how it looks from the dining room, when the units are pushed together to close up the doorway. And the units pushed apart to enter the living room. We can access the storage cubes from both sides — from the dining or living room — which is so very useful.
