Check out Oprah’s New Orcas Island Getaway

Variety has done some super sleuthing to discover that Oprah Winfrey just spent $8.275 million on a private estate on Orcas Island, Washington. Orcas Island is between Seattle and Vancouver in the San Juan Islands archipelago.

Oprah’s new compound, named Madroneagle Estate by the seller, features two waterfront parcels totaling 43 acres and 3,000 feet of shoreline.

There are several structures including a tea house (shown on the left), the main house featuring four bedrooms, three full bathrooms and two half bathrooms (shown on the right), a large barn with a gym, a woodworking studio and yoga studio and a large guest house on the cliff overlooking the bay.

Rustic craftsman in style, the three-story main residence is 7,303 square feet of oasis. Stone facing, rustic timber accents and a copper and slate roof add to the charm of the home.

The landscaping and exterior structures are inspired by a Japanese botanical garden.

Because the compound is private, glass doors and windows are featured throughout.

The main house great room flows into the outdoor patios, dining room and kitchen. The interior features rustic cabin details like reclaimed woods and hand-forged ironwork throughout. There’s a nod to Oprah’s hometown – the wood floors come from the old Sears building in Chicago.

The builders mixed and matched wood tones and reclaimed wood species in the home.

The large kitchen features soaring ceilings with large timber beams and a wood-burning oven.

The game room offers enough space and entertainment for Oprah’s entourage.

Oprah’s master bedroom has breathtaking water and island views.

The bathroom features a large antique clawfoot tub and original art from the indigenous peoples of the Northwest.

The rustic-chic laundry room features plenty of counter space for folding.

A patio that leads out to the beautiful surroundings is perfect for alfresco dining.

A path from the main house leads to the serene tea house with sweeping views of the islands.

The private, 2,948-square-foot guest house sits on a cliff and has four bedrooms and three bathrooms, plus its own private beach below.

A beautiful design idea for the IVAR cabinet with doors

A wall of IVAR cabinets with doors engraved is astonishingly captivating. Because IVAR is real solid wood (unlike a lot of flat-pack cupboards), it makes a great blank canvas for CNC machining work and engraving. IKEA items used: IKEA IVAR cabinets in 30mm (12″) and 50mm (20″) depths. It’s not too difficult to shorten some in order to fill a wall exactly. I shortened the top row to 695mm and reduced the depth of the middle column to 40mm to create a 50/40/30 sequence so that I didn’t block the window but maximised storage capacity. Take a drawing, trace it in Inkscape or Adobe Illustrator into a black-only flat design. You can simplify the path at this point to reduce the time needed to engrave. Chop up the drawing in Inkscape or Adobe Illustrator into door-sized sections. Save as an SVG. Import the ...
