SOLVED! 4 instead of 2 tiered corner cabinet carousel

Is it possible to ask a question about the UTRUSTA corner base cabinet carousel?

UTRUSTA carousel | IKEA.com

I was wondering if anyone has bought two of these, but combined into one unit, so with 4 swivel shelves instead of 2?

Or any other good corner hacks?

Thank you!

Hi Karah

That’s an interesting idea … but I’ve not seen it done.

Looking at the assembly manual, it looks possible to insert another swivel shelf into the rod. Personally, I think 4 shelves will be too tight for the height of the cabinet.

Anyone tried this? Do show us how it’s done. Yes! It’s possible and Karrie B. shows us how it’s done. Scroll down to end of post for the solution.

Maximising the corner cabinet without a carousel

While the corner carousel does help you see and reach everything in the corner, IMHO, it does waste a fair amount of space.

Shawna did away with the spinning thing entirely. Instead she used drawer slides and extra shelves to create a shelf and a pull out sections in the cabinet.

It works and is very economical too, compared to the price of the carousel. See her hack here.

Hope it works.

SOLVED! 4 Tier Corner Cabinet Carousel hack

I decided to hack the carousel because I use the cupboard as a pantry and I found that I had lots of small items like spices. And I also had lots of things stacked on top of each other. It was disorderly and hard to get to when I was trying to find items.

Since I already had one carousel, it only cost the price of the second unit. Now, I have twice as much space and all the short/ small items are in order.

IKEA items used:
  • 2 x IKEA UTRUSTA corner cabinet carousel

BEFORE! Carousel with 2 tiers of shelves

Other materials and tools:
  • I used a drill to make a hole through the spindle for the top shelf
4 tier carousel instructions:

I put together all the shelves from the second unit.

Then I undid the pole in the existing unit inside the cabinet.

I put the extra two shelves onto the pole and reinstalled the pole in the cabinet.

Next, I slid all the shelves up to the top and put the pins in. Then, I lowered the shelves — starting from the bottom shelf first to compensate for how close the shelves are to each other.

Lastly, I had to drill a new hole at the top for the pin for the top shelf.

And here it is, a corner cabinet carousel with 4 revolving tiers.

What’s the hardest part of the hack?

The hardest part of the hack was getting all the pins in and the shelves to stay up while I put in the pins.

Start putting the pin in for the shelf at the lowest tier, with all the other shelves held above where you are working.

I used tins of tuna to stop the shelves from falling down on the one I was working on, after a number of bruises from the other shelves slipping down.

Looking back, would you have done it differently?

Probably would have used the tuna tins sooner or worked out a better way to hold the top shelves up.

I started by working from the top down and when I got to the bottom I realised there wasn’t enough space to put the pin in on the last shelf. I had to pull the whole thing apart and start again from the bottom up.

Hackers Help: How to attach headboard to ESPEVÄR mattress base?

I’m trying to figure out if a headboard can be attached to an Espevar Mattress Base , and how to accomplish that. I’m looking at a standard metal headboard (because I just prefer the look of curved metal to what IKEA offers) and am not interested in a slat base with just a mattress on top, and a wall mounted headboard is not an option due to renting. Thanks for any help! ~ Amy *** Hi Amy I’ve not seen the ESPEVÄR in person but I believe it is possible to attach a headboard to it. From the website, the ESPEVÄR looks like a regular wooden slatted mattress base under a bed base slipover. As to how to attach it, that will depend on the fittings on the metal headboard. So you will just need to get the right hardware to secure the metal headboard to the wooden frame. And make some small openings on the slipcover to let the fixtures to go through. Should You Decorate for the Holidays If Your Home is on the Market?

‘Tis the season to be jolly, but should your home reflect the joy of the season if you’re also trying to sell it? If you love to decorate for the holidays, missing out on this once-a-year opportunity might sound like torture. On the other hand, you don’t want to miss the chance to sell your home because of your decorations. So, should you decorate for the holidays if your home is on the market? We’ve got some “nays,” “yeas,” and “other considerations.” No, Don’t Decorate An elaborately-decorated home in Houston. According to Anita Springate-Renaud, licensed partner and broker at Engel & Völkers Toronto Central , your festive decor can distract buyers from looking at the home’s raw design. “Elaborate decorations can distract and shift a prospective buyer’s focus away from what they should be looking at when shopping for a property.” So what should they

Kitchen renovation reveal: Rhombus wall steals the show

It’s been a while since I did a home tour. If you’ve missed the previous reveals, you can catch up with my Master Bathroom remodel and Guest Bathroom reveal . Today, let’s focus on my kitchen renovation. Hands down, this is the most used room in my home. I spend crazy amounts of time in here, even when I’m not cooking. Just off to the side of the kitchen I converted an awkward space into a reading nook . In the mornings, I sit and read or pray and meditate, before it gets too warm. And on the other side, there’s a work-in-progress plant wall / indoor garden which also takes up a lot of my time. So, all in all, lots of traffic in here, and that’s not even counting cooking and eating time. The kitchen is definitely my favourite room, because the transformation is huge and I love how it turned out.
