Kallax grows up to be a glamorous credenza

KALLAX glamorous gold and black credenza

IKEA item:

  • Kallax
  • Kallax door inserts

A small second lounge room in our home was calling for a sideboard – something chic and a little bit glamorous! But after shopping around for months, we couldn’t find anything that was a) affordable or b) exactly what we wanted. The solution was to take matters into our own hands and we chose Kallax as our starting point!

1. After building the Kallax unit with door inserts, we were ready to add legs. I chose ‘Estelle 480′ from Prettypegs.com, which comes with base plates and self-tapping screws. We positioned the first base plate near the corner of the unit and used a cordless drill to push in the screws, then repeated this step for the remaining 3 base plates.

2. The legs from Pretty Pegs easily wound into the base plates and then we righted the furniture onto its fancy new pegs.

3. We were now ready to attach panels to the door fronts. I chose design 1118 in mirror-gold from Stylkea.com. I literally peeled off the adhesive backing from the panel and stuck them onto the door fronts. No measuring was required as they fit perfectly.

4. We then moved the furniture into position! That’s it. The whole project was completed in 2.5 hours, which included assembling the Kallax.

Our grown-up Kallax credenza receives loads of compliments and nobody believes us when we say that it started its life as a flat-pack. :-)

SKÅDIS: 5 ways to make the IKEA pegboard even better

IKEA introduced its own pegboard system, SKÅDIS, two years ago and I’d say it’s one of the best systems IKEA launched in recent years. KALLAX desk ideas: Three ways to set up a workstation

Three great ideas for a KALLAX desk . #1 Compact, minimalist desk for laptop I put together a KALLAX desk for my laptop for just under 25 euros. Just a KALLAX 2×2 is needed. No other materials required. IKEA item used: KALLAX 2 x 2 (77 x 77 cm) KALLAX 2×2 | IKEA.com All you need to do is assemble 3 of the pieces in a U shape. That is all.  If you want to strengthen the structure you would need to drill a couple of holes in order to use the long middle shelf of the KALLAX unit as a back reinforcer. Easy and it works. ~ by Fabio Tudela #2 KALLAX standing desk I choose to stand at work because it makes me feel infinitely more productive.
