The best homeowners insurance companies in 2019

We hope you like the products we recommend. Just so you are aware, Freshome may collect a share of sales from the links on this page.  Shopping for the best home insurance policy on your own isn’t a simple or fun process. It is, however, something that everyone needs to safeguard their home. For that reason, we wanted to show you how to pick the best home insurance and the most important things to consider when searching for a provider and policy. After compiling research from dozens of reviews and independent-rating agencies, as well as interviewing an agent with more than 15 years of experience, we found that there’s no one-size-fits-all option. The one national company that separates itself from the other big dogs in the pack is Amica Mutual, which ranks highest in the homeowners insurance segment for an 18th consecutive year by J.D. Power. With something as individualized and geographical as home insurance, selecting a sole winner seemed impractical, so we decided to menti...

Kitchen renovation reveal: Rhombus wall steals the show

It’s been a while since I did a home tour. If you’ve missed the previous reveals, you can catch up with my Master Bathroom remodel and Guest Bathroom reveal . Today, let’s focus on my kitchen renovation. Hands down, this is the most used room in my home. I spend crazy amounts of time in here, even when I’m not cooking. Just off to the side of the kitchen I converted an awkward space into a reading nook . In the mornings, I sit and read or pray and meditate, before it gets too warm. And on the other side, there’s a work-in-progress plant wall / indoor garden which also takes up a lot of my time. So, all in all, lots of traffic in here, and that’s not even counting cooking and eating time. The kitchen is definitely my favourite room, because the transformation is huge and I love how it turned out. Kitchen renovation: The before House 17 when I first got it, actually had 2 kitchens, which is a very common “Asian” home concept. First, the “dry kitchen”, which is where you make simp...

Can I turn the IKEA SVALNÄS desk into a foldable table?

Help! Need suggestions for IKEA SVALNÄS as a foldable table Can it be done? Here’s the idea. Stop me before I make a mistake please! I’ve invested big in a fold-down wall bed .  To get it with a desk was going to cost another heap of money. So what if I put a bamboo SVALNÄS desk onto the bed base? SVALNÄS desk | IKEA.com To make it fold away when the bed is down as so … I was thinking of using the hinge from IVAR foldable table. IVAR foldable desk | IKEA.com So the desk would lay flat against the bed base and be parallel to the floor when bed is in use.   Would love the input of the IKEA Hackers community. ~ by Jinx *** Hi Jinx First up, I love the wall bed. Looks like a solid purchase. And it’s so neat when closed up. Now, on to your question. Looking at the SVALNÄS desk, IMHO, it’ll take more effort than what it’s worth to make it work. The SVALNÄS side posts will not be wide enough to accommodate the IVAR hinge and...

How to DIY an affordable IKEA entertainment wall

My IKEA BRIMNES entertainment wall was inspired by another hack detailed here . They use the HEMNES , which are objectively nicer units, but also more expensive.  I tried to make up for it with my own trim and finishes.  The previous owner of this house had a large freestanding unit.  This is split level house, and a countertop bar adjacent to the kitchen overlooks this room.  When I toured the house before buying, this room had such a nice expansive presence, it sold me on the house.  Once I moved in and had little furniture and a “tiny” 42″ TV on the wall, it was just lacking in every way.  Now, it is how I always envisioned it. I love the presence it brings to the room.  IKEA items used:  IKEA BRIMNES Bookcases (x2) BRIMNES Glass Door Cabinet (x2) BRIMNES 70″ TV unit Other materials and tools:   2x4s Stacked stone MDF Entertainment Wall hack instructions:  First, I demolished two rows of floor tile.  I could ha...
