IKEA FREKVENS to hit stores February 1st.
The collaboration between IKEA and Teenage Engineering, announced in 2018, is ready to launch this February.
The name, FREKVENS, meaning ‘frequency’ in Swedish, is perfect to describe the heart of the collection.
The goal of the FREKVENS range encourages spontinuity, creativity and mobility when it comes to sound around the home. With FREKVENS you can throw the ultimate home party, as quickly as the thought occurs.
Insights of how important music is in young people’s life was the starting point in the FREKVENS collection, where IKEA has engineered new solutions for having fun, together with Teenage Engineering.
IKEA FREKVENS for spontaneity
“We know that for younger people spontinuity is key. The idea of gathering some friends could become a reality in minutes. What is needed to have a good party at home? That’s what we wanted to investigate with FREKVENS. Together with Teenage Engineering, we have explored the possibilities of taking the party with us,” says Michael Nikolic, Creative Design Leader at IKEA of Sweden.
“FREKVENS is a collection with its own personality — one very recognizable to Teenage Engineering enthusiasts. Throughout the collaboration we joked that Teenage Engineering knew us better than we did! They added their rebellious touch to the IKEA identity which made it feel even more IKEA. That’s why we love it!” Michael says and laughs.
“The collection introduces something new for IKEA. A sound collection with simple bluetooth technology and stacking ability lets you create your own configuration for a great party, anywhere in the home. The other bonus is the collection has all the other things you need to get the party started,” Michael adds.
Closer look at the bluetooth speakers
The main star of the collection is the $149 FREKVENS Speaker with a built-in subwoofer, all packed in an industrial looking box.
There’s also a smaller version at $69.99. Top it with a FREKVENS Speaker base with light at $10 to create the right party ambiance.
The last speaker in the range is a hands free portable version, with a belt clip on the back. It comes in a shape which reminds of an old school walkman.

The FREKVENS collection extends IKEA’s foray into sound which started with SYMFONISK the result of the collaboration with Sonos.
There’s more than speakers
Besides the speakers, the range carries more traditional IKEA products designed to help you host a stylish home party.
They include multi-use light that responds to sound, bar tables, stools and an ottoman, mugs, and other unusual items like a cajón and a reflective raincoat.
FREKVENS LED multi-use light $40
FREKVENS Cajón drum $29.99
The FREKVENS collection will be available in IKEA stores by February. Then, the next question is “where shall we party, at your place or mine?”
